Fire destroys Netherton farm shop
Fire crews were called to a blaze at a farm shop and restaurant close to Huddersfield on Monday but despite working through the night, were helpless to prevent the building from being destroyed.
The huge fire happened at Hinchcliffe’s Farm Shop, at Sunnyside Farm, Netherton, which had won numerous awards for its butchery products, and took around 90 firefighters to tackle the fire.
A statement was released on the company’s website which read:
“We are devastated to announce that at around 10pm last night a huge fire wiped out the shop, the restaurant, store room and offices.
“Clearly as the site is currently in ruin, trading in the restaurant, farm shop and butchery will be halted until further notice.”
The majority of the animals on the farm site were saved by fire crews from the local area, including representatives from Holmfirth, Hunslet, Batley, Huddersfield, Meltham, Marsden, Brighouse and Morley, who managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the sheds where the animals were kept.
Police had to close a number of roads in the vicinity as water was pumped from hydrants as well as the River Holme.
The West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service commenting on the incident revealed that the cause of the fire was still unknown and that an investigation is now underway.

Investigation begins into Blackpool factory fire
It has been reported that a 34-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of arson following a blaze which tore through a factory in Blackpool last Saturday night.
Police have now confirmed that an arson probe is underway into the devastating fire which occurred on the premises of Cannon Linen on Clifton Road in Mereside.
A spokesperson on behalf of Blackpool Police said of this suspected arson incident and subsequent arrest:
“We have arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of arson. He has been bailed until October 4.”
Fire crews from all across Blackpool were needed to tackle the blaze, with representatives from Bispham, Fulwood and St Annes joining firefighters from South Shore.
The fire was said to have destroyed the contents of the heavy machinery factory, although the site’s infrastructure is still intact.
Factories can prove to be dangerous places to work under normal conditions, but when there is the risk of arson to contend with also, it is important to remain vigilant at all times. If you are the owner of a factory, it is crucial that your workers are sent on a fire safety and risk assessment course to train them on how to implement the necessary fire safety procedures and fire prevention on your premises.
