Firefighters called to recycling plant blaze in Hartlepool
It has been reported that around 50 firefighters were required at a paper recycling plant in Hartlepool last Thursday evening after a fire broke out on the premises.
Cleveland Fire Brigade attended the fire at Cleveland Waste Paper on an industrial estate in Mainsforth Terrace, just before 6pm with 11 appliances being sent to control the situation.
When the fire service arrived there was a lot of smoke coming from the premises and the police had to cordon off a number of roads in the area.
Other emergency services in the form of the police and ambulance crews were also called to the scene.
A Cleveland Police spokesperson explained how the plume of smoke had been sent out in the direction of the sea due to the wind direction so there was no need for residents in the vicinity to be concerned.
A hydraulic platform and an emergency tender command and control unit were used to tackle the flames and the spokesperson said that the intensity of the situation was reduced considerably within the first two hours the firefighters arrived at the scene. However, putting out the flames took a great deal longer.
At this moment in time it is not known what caused the blaze at the recycling plant and no more details have been released.

Inverness nursing home patients safely evacuated following blaze
It has recently been reported that a combination of police officers, paramedics and local residents pulled together to lead dozens of dementia patients to safety following a large fire at a nursing home in Inverness.
As flames tore through the roof of Culloden Court Care Home in Murray Road, Smithton, at about 5.30pm, the 59 elderly patients were evacuated just in time.
Assistant chief fire officer Mike Holme praised the actions of everyone involved with the rescue operation.
He added: “Fire crews are still actively fighting the fire and it is expected that the Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service will be in attendance for much of the night.”
Remarkably nobody was injured in the fire as firefighters from stations in Inverness, Beauly, Dingwall and Nairn moved quickly to attend to the situation as the residents of the home were taken away, safely wrapped in blankets.
A temporary refuge was set up at Smithton Primary School for the patients, who were taken there by ambulance.
At this point in time it is not known if the fire was started deliberately or not but according to Inspector Ian Graham of Northern Constabulary, an investigation is already underway into the cause of the blaze.
