Three die in Bridlington house fire
Three children have died and their mother is in a serious condition in hospital after a house fire in Bridlington. The fire broke out at the Clarence Avenue property at around midnight on 11th November.
Fire fighters fought to rescue the children but sadly, Maddie, aged 3, William, ages 9 and AJ aged 5 all died.
Head of operations at Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said “We were faced at the time with a very severe house fire. This is a typical sort of three-storey terraced property, fire on the ground floor but very intense, very dense smoke logging right throughout the property. Fire crews made a search of the building and, very regrettably, we found four casualties who were rescued from the second floor of the building”.
It is too early to establish the cause of the blaze but it not thought that it was started deliberately.
More info on Fire Marshal Training
If you own a business then all your employees need to learn about fire awareness, but in the event of a fire breaking out on your premises then you need a trained fire marshal to help evacuate the building.
This role is extremely important for any business to ensure fire safety within their organisation. A fire marshal is not just there for emergency situations either; they also need to make sure that the on-going fire safety procedures within the business are kept up to date too.
A fire marshal needs to monitor and maintain the fire safety equipment and fire alarms installed in the building as well as using their knowledge to let others know the right procedures and best practice to follow.
In order to conform to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2006 you need to appoint the required number of competent people to perform duties as fire marshals for your company. Following successful completion of the course they will be able to organise evacuation drills and ensure that fire safety systems are in full working order.
When you undertake a Fire Marshal Training course from an experienced training provider, you are able to get instructions from the very best. These instructors have had experience in the field and will be able to impart this to your staff.
Historic Huddersfield cricket club destroyed in arson attack
It has been reported that a fire which has wrecked the clubhouse of the oldest cricket club in Huddersfield is being treated as arson.
Firefighters were called to Lascelles Hall Cricket Club at Highfield Lane shortly before 12am last Sunday but were unable to prevent the building from being destroyed in the blaze.
The irreplaceable memorabilia ruined in the fire went back 185 years.
The chairman of Lascelles Hall Cricket Club, Shaun Woodhams, said:
“Memorabilia of Alec Lodge and Brian Shaw has all gone, photographs from the early days of the club, cups, everything.
“It can’t be replaced. I was told about it at 7am in the morning and no doubt throughout the day club members will be turning up to take a look.
“The police will be looking into it. We’ve had a reasonably quiet few years with no trouble but last week we were broken into and nothing was taken. We don’t know if it’s linked.
“One of our problems is we are out on a limb and there are not many people around who can report something like this.”
The police are now working on an investigation into the cause of the fire, which happened just a few hours after fire crews had been present at a blaze at nearby Kirkheaton Cricket Club.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police confirmed that these two deliberately started fires are not being linked at present, although an appeal for witnesses to come forward was made. Any information that could help with the investigation is being welcomed by the police.

Foam in river after warehouse fire
Firefighters have been battling to stop detergent foam from spreading further down river following a fire at a warehouse in Newton Aycliffe late last week.
As the fire was extinguished at Stiller, a warehouse containing aerosol cans, on Friday, a reaction caused foam to travel down the River Skerne to Darlington centre. However, the Environment Agency has confirmed that there is no toxic threat from the foam.
Staff had to be evacuated from the premises at 1pm on Friday afternoon, although it was confirmed that there were no injuries.
Fire crews managed to save the main offices at the factory, with employees expected to go back to work once the site has been made safe.
The operations manager for County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, Dave Turnbull, said:
“What we have managed to do is stop the fire spreading to other buildings and offices so the management side of Stiller is still operational.
“The company, as far as I’m aware, will be able to kick off ASAP. Once they get the goahead from the Health and Safety Executive, they can start operating. All they will need is another storage area.”
An investigation into the blaze is still being carried out.
