Fire at Dorset paper recycling factory
A Dorset recycling factory was hit by a fire on Monday evening.
30 firefighters and 5 fire units attended the blaze which broke out at around 6pm at the factory on Mannings Heath Road in Poole.
The fire was brought under control by about 7.10pm. The fire is thought to have been started accidentally.
No casualties were reported.
Fears of gas explosion at garage fire
A fire at a garage in Mundford broke out last week resulting in local residents being evacuated and roads being closed due to fears that propane gas cylinders stored nearby may explode.
The A134 was closed and a 200 metre cordon was enforced at 8am on Friday after a fire broke out in a lorry that was parked next to a domestic garage.
Tim Lewis, station manager said: “With cylinders and vehicles involved it could have been quite a catalyst, so at the time our main concern was for the safety of the crews and the public.”
Firefighters from Norfolk and Suffolk attended the fire and controlled the situation quickly but remained at the scene for several hours.
Roads were re-opened and residents allowed to return to their homes shortly after.
Infant and nursery unit destroyed in blaze
A school in Bulwark near Cheptsow has lost it’s infant and nursery departments after a huge fire broke out in the early hours of Friday morning.
Thornwell Primary school was closed for half term at the time of the fire with pupils due to return on Monday 6th June. Linda Davies who is the head teacher at the school said: “It’s just heart breaking. All the hard work, all the children’s, well everything that they’ve ever done over the last year has just completely gone up in smoke.”
A statement from Monmouthshire County Council was released saying: “A fire broke out at Thornwell Primary School, Chepstow, in the early hours of Friday morning. It has completely destroyed the infant building, which included three classrooms, the nursery unit and infant hall. We are assessing the situation and it is hoped that the school will be open early next week with infant pupils being accommodated in the junior building.”
No casualties were reported. An investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the blaze.
Fire at Billingham chemical plant
10 fire crews were called to a huge fire at a chemical plant in Billingham last Thursday.
The fire at the GrowHow plant, which employs more than 600 people, started at around 5.40pm on 2nd June and was quickly dealt with by the on site emergency services and Cleveland Fire Brigade.
Gerard Suggitt from Stranton Fire Station said: “All three of our appliances went out to the fire. We got the call at around 5.40pm, but didn’t leave the site until 8pm. We left when the fire had completely extinguished and luckily no-one was injured.”
A spokesperson for GrowHow said: “Safety is out top priority and the incident was managed professionally and safely by its employees and the emergency services. The company has begun an investigation into the cause of the fire.”
