Blaze at Blackpool hotel
A hotel in Blackpool was evacuated after a fire broke out in the building’s laundry room.
Firefighters from St Annes fire station attended the blaze at the Glendower Hotel on the North Promenade at around 5.30pm on September 10th.
A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “It was accidental. The hotel did a great job of evacuating the premises by following the hotel procedures. One person suffering effects of smoke inhalation was taken to hospital for a precautionary check up.”
The laundry room was heavily smoke damaged after kitchen laundry that had been left in a dryer had ignited. It has been reported that one man taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Fire at Norwich pub
A fire broke out in a building behind the Maypole Pub in Old Norwich Road in Ipswich at around 10.15pm on 6th September causing structural damage and damage to trees and bushes.
It was thought that butane cylinders were being stored in the outbuilding so fire crews tackled the blaze from a safe distance. It took firefighters from Colchester Road almost 2 hours to extinguish the blaze.
Watch manager said: “The building was fully engulfed on our arrival. At the present moment, we do not know how the fire started. We attacked the fire when we first arrived and found that cylinders were involved and reverted to the policy for fires with cylinders and fought it from a safe distance.”
Woman killed as car crashes into fire engine
A woman has died after her car collided with a fire engine attending a 999 call on 9th September.
The tragedy happened in Basildon, Essex, as the fire engine was responding to another crash at about 9am.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We were called to a road traffic crash at 9am on Broadmayne, Basildon. Vehicles were involved, a fire engine and another car. There was one occupant in the car and the driver was certified dead immediately.”
A spokesman from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: “The appliance was leaving the station responding to an emergency call when the incident happened by the fire station. The alarm was raised by crews. The appliance was responding to a road traffic collision in Ashlyns, Basildon, where an 11-year-old child was trapped in a vehicle.”
