Fire destroys scout HQ in Blackpool
It has been reported that a huge blaze last Saturday morning has left a scout centre in Blackpool badly damaged.
Fire crews were called to the Scout District Headquarters on Heyhouses Lane in St Annes to tackle the fire.
Six fire engines turned up to combat the fire at the main headquarters, but firefighters were unable to prevent the building from extensive damage.
The fire happened in the early hours of Saturday and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service revealed that the flames also spread to nearby buildings.
The roads surrounding the building were closed as firefighters attempted to bring the fire under control.
An investigation is now underway into the cause of the blaze.
Explorer scout leader, Paul Broughton, commenting on the fire, said:
“Obviously it was a very good facility which unfortunately now is no longer with us.
“I think it will upset a lot of people. Immediate events will have to be moved to alternative locations and meetings will take place to discuss what is going to happen in the future.”
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, with its 1,500 strong workforce, are currently promoting a campaign for fire awareness in the local area with a free home fire safety check for Lancashire’s residents.
