Cambridgeshire library destroyed in blaze
A Cambridge library has been destroyed in a fire that broke out on Thursday, 6th September.
Firefighters attended the incident at Sawston Village College at around 2.20pm.
Crews evacuated everyone safely from the building and there were no casualties reported. Crews from Sawston, Cambridge, Saffron Walden, Royston, Huntingdon and Newmarket. battled the fire for several hours.
Eyewitness, Ollie Capes, said: “I heard all the commotion with fire engines then saw smoke billowing from the oldest part of the college. You could see the fire was about 25 feet up in the air and I believe that maybe the library had collapsed as well.”
Maurice Moore, from the fire service, said: “Firefighters worked extremely hard to put in fire breaks at either end of the library and stopped the fire from spreading.”
