Haringey Landlords Jailed – Friday 12th June 2009
Two landlords have been sentenced to imprisonment for six months and have each been ordered to pay £5000 costs for breaching fire safety regulations after a prosecution by London Fire Brigade.
The prosecution was after a fire at a house which had been converted into bedsits, Hampden Road, N8 on 31st March 2007.
Michael de Havilland and Sally Fox of Muswell Hill were sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday 12th June after pleading guilty.
London Fire Brigade Fire Safety inspectors found multiple breaches of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 after the fire had happened. Some of the breaches included: Lack of firefighting equipment ie Fire Extinguishers/Fire Blankets, lack of proper fire doors in the bedrooms and the communal kitchen and there was no fire risk assessment avaliable for inspection.
A further inspection was arranged as a result of the breaches as they needed to be dealt with.
After further communication with the co-owners & also further inspections over a numerous number of months inspecting officers found no work had been completed to make the premises safe.
