Infant school destroyed by fire looks to temporary solution
Temporary classrooms are being set up in a Welsh infant school following a blaze which devastated the building last week.
Work has now started to try and install a short-term solution to the problem until the 80 or so Ynysboeth Infants School pupils can be relocated to the Junior School site in Mountain Ash, Cynon Valley.
The local authorities are hoping to be in a position to move pupils in the very near future so these children can have classes for the last few weeks of term.
In the meantime fire investigators are working with the police to establish the cause of the fire, which began last Thursday night.
Councillor Eudine Hanagan explained:
“Work continues with other emergency services to establish how this tragic incident happened.
“However, our main focus at this time is to do all we can to return the pupils to the learning environment and we are hoping to have them in temporary accommodation on the junior school site soon.
“We are working with the staff, governors and parents at the school and keeping them updated on progress.”
While the fire was at its most ferocious, over 50 firefighters were needed to tackle the blaze, along with 14 engines and other support vehicles.
Despite this unfortunate situation, many schools throughout the area have offered to support the school pupils through the donation of learning materials.
