Fire fighter hurt at cannabis factory fire in Grangetown, Cardiff
Fire service says cannabis factory discovered at property in Grangetown area, after officers called to house fire.
A firefighter who suffered burns to his back and shoulders while tackling a blaze a South Wales house which was being used as a cannabis factory has been released from hospital.
The alarm was raised by a member of the public at 02:48 BST on Sunday morning.
At the height of the incident, more than 40 firefighters from stations in Cardiff and Barry fought the fire.
South Wales Fire and Recue said they discovered the cannabis factory on the upper floor of the house.
A fire service spokesperson said the house was well-alight when the fire officers arrived.
South Wales Police said neighbouring houses were also evacuated for a time.
Clare Road was closed for 12 hours but has now reopened to traffic.
The fire service said the fire fighter has been discharged from hospital.

Recycling plant to burn for days
More than 70 firefighters are tackling the blaze over a seven-acre area at the Smurfit Kappa paper mill in the Nechells area of Birmingham.
The fire had started just after 10pm on Wednesday night.
Tens of thousands of tons of cardboard is expected to keep burning for days at the recycling plant.
There are 20 fire crews on the site and at one point overnight 100 firefighters were on the scene near the M6 motorway.
The site in Mount Street is a recycled packaging mill, according to the company website.
According to its website, Smurfit Kappa is one of the leading producers of paper-based packaging in the world, with more than 41,000 employees in 32 countries. It has its headquarters in Dublin.

Springfield house fire: Woman dead and five injured
A woman has died and five other people have been injured.
The woman, believed to be in her 50s, was confirmed dead at the scene. A teenage girl “sustained approximately 70% burns”, the ambulance service said.
A 26-year-old woman suffered burns, while three other people were also treated for injuries.
Up to 25 firefighters tackled the blaze, the fire is out but Cateswell Road has been cordoned off and remains closed to traffic.
The teenager with 70% burns was sedated at the scene and taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Cateswell Road remains closed to traffic and the two houses either side were evacuated during the blaze.
An investigation into its cause is under way.

Southwark museum and library blaze tackled by fire crews
Last week a fire broke out in a building in Southwark which houses a library, a museum and the council “one stop shop”.
The blaze in the four-storey building in Wansey Street, Walworth was tackled by almost 120 firefighters and 20 fire engines, with the roof of the library and museum on fire..
30 people were evacuated from inside the building, which houses Newington Library and no injuries have been reported.
Councillor Peter John, leader of the council, said: “It is too early to say what the cause of the fire is and how long services from that building will be suspended for.
“Whilst our first concern is for the safety of residents and our staff, we are also worried about possible damage to the museum’s collection.”
It is not known how the blaze started, the fire brigade said.

Major fire at Glasgow Steiner School in Yorkhill
A major fire at an independent school in the west end of Glasgow broke out last week and up to 60 children were led to safety.
55 firefighters and 10 appliances were deployed to prevent the fire spreading and Incident Commander, ACO Lewis Ramsay said: “The initial crews have worked tirelessly to tackle the blaze and operations are ongoing to contain the fire.
“Members of the local community can be assured that fire crews will continue to work relentlessly until this incident is brought to a safe conclusion.
“An effective multi-agency approach with police and the local authority is ongoing to manage the incident and reassure local residents.”
Following the evacuation, pupils were taken to a local community centre. No-one is thought to have been injured.
A joint investigation by Strathclyde Fire and Rescue and Strathclyde Police will determine the cause of the blaze that is not yet known.
